Teaching

Dr. K’s class was interactive and engaging[…]. He respected me as a student and scholar and treated me as such in conversations.”

At Ferris State University, I teach a range of courses across writing studies, including professional and technical communication, journalism, and business writing, and first-year composition. Each course I teach emphasizes rhetorical awareness and the importance for students to be effective twenty-first century communicators, which includes the use of digital and analog communication technologies. I achieve these broad goals through assignments and activities that encourage students to reflect on their own writing processes, write in a variety of genres for varying audiences in various contexts, research public issues and communities, and compose using an array of writing tools and technologies.
